TITLE: Orientation Leader

POSITION PROFILE
To assist with the direction and instruction of new volunteers serving at Metropolitan Ministries. Primarily functioning through an orientation with a result of volunteers that are mobilized with the spirit, knowledge, and understanding needed to effectively serve the organization
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.) Ensure all volunteers attending orientation are signed in through Meet The Need database
2.) Set up of orientation room, including powering on/off of computer and lights and ensuring a clean environment prior to and after orientation.
3.) Providing a two part orientation that focuses on the ideology and mission of Metropolitan Ministries as well as a tour of the campus that clearly outlines volunteer needs.
4.) Continuing education via Volunteer Services Manager regarding year to year changes in the Volunteer Services operation and organizational volunteer priorities.
5.) Post orientation debriefs with volunteers seeking specific pieces of information and direction toward onboarding steps for High Impact Person (HIP) program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School graduate with general customer service experience is helpful with the main focus being on public presentations and public speaking in front of groups of 15+. Prior exposure and relation to at-risk and homeless individuals preferred. A general knowledge of Metropolitan Ministries including its history, success, and volunteer needs.
Skill Requirements:
Effective communication in English and time management. Sensitivity in addressing issues of poverty, homelessness and faith in a professional and caring manner.
Physical Requirements:
Hearing and speaking ability which allows for effective oral communication of information. Ability to stand for over an hour and walk across the entire Metropolitan Ministries campus.
Other:
General expectations are for business casual attire or in regard to Saturdays, jeans and a t-shirt are acceptable. Whenever possible Metropolitan Ministries t-shirts are preferred. Specifically avoid graphic t-shirts and open toed shoes for the safety of the campus.

For over 40 years, Metropolitan Ministries has served poor and homeless men, women, and children in the Tampa Bay region. The Ministries has gone from a single room food pantry, to one of America's most effective and innovative caregivers. Serving 100-150 families daily through Outreach and Prevention Services, the Ministries remains committed to breaking the cycle of poverty...today, tomorrow and always. The facilities include Uplift U residential housing, a residence day care, an elementary school, adult training opportunities, a full-service kitchen that prepares 2,200 meals per day 7 days a week, and a thrift store to provide clothing for those in need and to the general public. Metropolitan Ministries also manages Compassion + Action, a collaborative that mobilizes partnerships across four counties to meet the growing need in local neighborhoods and transform the lives of families in crisis.
