What is HELP?
The Hospital Elder Life Program is a service provided byAuroraLakelandMedicalCenterand Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington to improve the hospital experience of older patients. The program is dedicated to providing personalized care for seniors by supporting and encouraging independence.
Why?
Being in the hospital upsets normal routines of mental and physical activity just at the time a person is coping with illness. The Hospital Elder Life Program helps keep the mind and body as active as possible in spite of illness.
What do we do?
Specially trained volunteers provide extra care to older adults in the hospital including:
Daily Volunteer Visits
Daily visits designed to keep you alert and oriented, while providing support and socialization.
Meal-time Assistance
Daily visits to assist with filling out your menu or setting up your meal tray if that is needed.
Early Mobilization
Promote strength and mobility through range of motion and walking opportunities.
Recreational Activities
Provide stimulating and enjoyable activities to help you stay mentally focused to keep the mind and body active. Our volunteers can also assist with relaxation exercises that can help reduce stress during the hospital stay.
Fluid Balance
Reminders to stay hydrated by drinking adequate amounts of liquids daily.
Sleep and Rest
If you have trouble sleeping, we share instructions for you, your family and caregiving staff on how to improve sleep while in the hospital
