ORGANIZATION: The Volunteer Network of Lake, Mendocino & Sonoma County

The Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County is a grassroots organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for those in Mendocino County faced with cancer. Our vision is that no one in Mendocino County will face cancer alone. We need local volunteers in Ukiah and Mendocino who can help with:

Special Events

Help with mailers, newsletters, upcoming events, food preparation, setup/take-down, etc. These types of volunteer jobs require little or no training and commitment. This is a great way to try our organization out - you might like it so much you’ll want to volunteer once a week!

Public Relations

Help with coordinating newspaper articles, CRCMC-sponsored events, and activities. We also need someone to help distribute posters in Mendocino and Ukiah.

Gardening

We have small gardens in the front of our buildings which can always use some TLC. You provide the loving hands, and we will provide the materials.

Description

Make a Difference in Your Community!

The NCO Volunteer Network serves Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma counties by connecting volunteers with opportunities. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.

The Foster Grandparent Program places volunteers 55 and older in schools, to make a direct difference for children in Elementary School. This program also provides a small stipend for low income seniors, who are willing to serve at lease 15 hours per week in local schools.

The Volunteer Network also coordinates the CERT teams for community emergency response and the VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster)
