RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program works to increase the social ties of homebound older adults. Partnering with ElderMatch, a program of Lutheran Social Services is a great approach to get this done.
ElderMatch Coordinator meets with the homebound requesting service to ascertain needs and personality. Then they search for the right fit in a volunteer companion. It could be they need someone who is out-going and talkative, or they prefer someone who is a great listener. Sometimes common past experiences like military service or a common interest like model train building or board games makes the match successful.
The volunteer companions make a visit once a week or 10 days for an hour or two. The companions report back to the ElderMatch companion on any concerns or news that the client shares. News shared could be that a grandson is getting married or there is new baby in the family. Concerns noted could be that a child is in the hospital, children are moving away or the companion notices signs of a health concern. These are possible concerns that Lutheran Social Services may want to follow-up on to make sure that the client is getting the assistance that they need. In this way the ElderMatch volunteer can have a critical role in the well-being of the client.
RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program loves that there are individuals who will reach out and support those who may be isolated in our community. RSVP partners with ElderMatch and supports the volunteers who do this important work. Ask about the benefits of RSVP.

Description
Make a Difference in Your Community
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
