  • 46 people are interested

We are looking for volunteers to help us size, tag, and hang clothing at our distribution center in Dedham. This is the perfect opportunity for fashionistas, expert thrift hunters, and those on a mission to erradicate new HIV infections in Massachusetts.

Extra bonus (though not required), if any of these apply to you:

  • You know what ROY G. BIV stands for
  • You have great penmanship
  • You are compelled to keep things orderly
  • You're a social butterfly with an eccentric streak
This work directly benefits our client programs at AIDS Action Committee which include: health services, job training, needle exchange, prevention education, and peer support groups. Requirements: Ability to work a tagging gun (we will train you!), can follow specific tagging instructions, and can stand for 30-45 minutes at a time.

We are looking for volunteers Monday-Saturday from 11am-1pm, or from 2pm-4pm, however, we're happy to work with your schedule.

Mission Statement

Our Mission: To stop the epidemic and related health inequities by eliminating new infections, maximizing healthier outcomes for those infected and at risk, and tackling the root causes of HIV/AIDS.

Description

Over the last 10 years, we’ve seen a 59% reduction in new HIV diagnoses in Massachusetts, which has meant that 4,085 people who might otherwise have become HIV positive have remained negative, and the state will save more than $1.6 billion in health care costs.

We go beyond the basics of providing safer sex kits and HIV meds and take a comprehensive approach to HIV prevention and care. We work face to face with the people most impacted by HIV. We understand their complex needs and how these needs impact their health, and we channel this information to public officials and politicians who make life-changing policy and funding decisions.

At present, we work directly with one-in-six people diagnosed with HIV in our state, and provide prevention services to thousands more. Expanding on our successful model, we’re also taking the fight to infections and diseases related to HIV, like Hepatitis C.
