Be A Mentor Program for Foster Care Youth

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Be A Mentor, Inc.

Right now, the Be A Mentor Program for Foster Care Youth throughout Alameda County has dozens of kids living in foster homes or with other than parents who are seeking a mentor--someone that they can talk to, spend time with, and look up to. Someone who will say, "I believe in YOU!"

The time spent can be focused on school work, exploring higher education and careers, going to movies, sporting events or museums, or simply talking and being a friend. You are only asked to spend 4 to 6 hours per month together. The commitment is for at least one year, but the personal rewards for both the mentor and the youth are endless.

Description

The Be A Mentor Program pairs caring adult volunteers from the community with youth in one-to-one relationships. Mentors give of their time to be a friend, answering questions, and providing guidance. Mentors come from a variety of backgrounds and occupations and volunteer their personal time to be a caring friend to a youth. They serve as a role model, advocate, and resource. The purpose of the mentoring relationship is to help youth develop their full potential, both in and outside of the classroom.
