Help Low Income People Get Fresh Produce From Farmers' Market Donations

Farmers at the Midland Farmer's Market are often willing to donate fresh produce to those in need. The Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network (EFPN) is looking for volunteers to pick up the donated produce on Saturdays and bring it to our office location at 503 S Saginaw Rd. The volunteer would need to go around and ask the farmers for donations. EFPN has a hand cart that can be used to transport the boxes or totes of produce. Volunteers would sign up for specific Saturdays. This can be handled by one person on any specific Saturday but more people can be involved. EFPN is trying to get our recipients to eat more healthy so having this produce helps us achieve that goal. Fresh produce is often more expensive than canned or frozen produce so low income people often cannot afford to purchase the fresh produce. We plan on sharing excess produce with other nonprofit organizations that feed those in need. We hope to put together a team of volunteers so no one person or group has to do it often.
