  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Project Vision Hawai'i is thrilled to be invited by the Army Reserves and State of Hawai'i Department of Health to participate in Tropic Care and assist by offering distance, near and retinal screening for adults and plusoptiX screening for keiki.

The Project Vision vans will be stationed at Kea'au High School in Kea'au, HI from June 7 - 11. We are looking for people who would like to assist us, Tuesday - Friday, June 7 - 10, from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm, and on Saturday, June 11, from 8:30 am - noon.

The following are positions we would love to have assistance with:

1. Greeter / Hostess: The primary duty of a greeter is to help participants feel welcome at our screening. Additional duties include: greeting people; assisting people to find information (brochures, rack cards, or booklets), and fill out intake forms for screening. The greeter answers general questions about the screenings offered, and may troubleshoot problems participants may encounter. Their station is outside of the RV, or behind/beside the table inside a venue. A successful candidate must be outgoing, pleasant, able to read English, and have an excellent eye for detail.
2. Ophthalmic Technician: The primary duty of an ophthalmic technician is to offer visual acuity (myopia and hyperopia, near and far respectively) and retinal screening. Visual acuity screening is done manually, using vision charts. Retinal screening requires the use of a retinal camera. Additional duties may include quality control of intake forms, using a slit lamp (as directed by an ophthalmologist), answering general questions, and providing the highest caliber of participant care. A successful candidate must be pleasant, comfortable with people being close, able to read English, and comfortable with technology
3. Participant Exit Interviewer: The primary duty of a participant exit interviewer is to gather the completed intake forms, ensure they are complete and legible, and file them in the lock box. Additional duties may include sharing the results of the exam or when the results should arrive, hand out pass / refer letters for keiki, follow up letters / cards for adults, "report cards" (process survey evaluations), and answer general questions. A successful candidate must be pleasant, detail oriented, and able to read English.
4. Floater: The floater's primary responsibility is to ensure all stations have sufficient supplies and equipment is working properly. Additional duties include the ability to step in to relieve the greeter, any of the ophthalmic technician stations (myopic, hyperopic, and retinal), and the exit interviewer. A successful candidate must be pleasant, detail oriented, and able to read English.
5. Event Attendant: The event attendant's primary responsibility is to help set up/break down the tables, chairs, stations, and equipment for each event. Additional duties may include assisting the driver to park safely, taking the garbage out, and other duties as assigned. A successful candidate must strong, helpful, able to follow directions and take initiative to resolve problems.

Mission Statement

Project Vision Hawai`i is a non-profit organization that aims to achieve better access to healthcare for Hawai'i’s people. It provides health screenings and education with a focus on vision health.

Description

Project Vision Hawai`i was founded in 2007 by Dr. Michael Bennett, a local ophthalmologist who specializes in retinal surgery. With his oversight, the foundation for the program was developed by Hawai`i’s top experts in vision care. In 2011, Project Vision Hawai`i became a 501(c) 3.

As a community driven organization, expansion of Project Vision Hawai`i has been guided by need. Since 2007, it has grown from one mobile screening unit to three mobile screening units serving Hawai`i Island, Kaua`i, Lāna`i, Maui, Molokai`i and O`ahu.

Project Vision Hawai`i has the only mobile health screening programs in Hawai`i that provide statewide services in communities with significant access-to-care challenges related to income, lack of insurance, geographical location, or cultural conflict.

To date, Project Vision Hawai`i has provided free medical screening services to more than 115,000 patients across the state, including high populations of seniors, children from low-income families, immigrants, and individuals with disabilities.
