Huron-Clinton Metroparks is conducting a wildlife survey at Stony Creek Metropark (July 27) and Wolcott Metropark (August 31) in partnership with ITC Michigan and Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc (ECT). Surveys will be conducted 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.
We will be surveying for plants, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects within ITC’s electricity transmission corridors which traverse both parks. These surveys, led by ITC environmental consultant ECT, support ITC’s continuing Wildlife Habitat Council accreditation at the two sites while gathering valuable knowledge of species diversity within these powerline corridors. ECT will provide onsite training for volunteers to identify Michigan’s native flora and fauna at these events, and while a general knowledge of Michigan species is beneficial, no experience is necessary.
All necessary tools and equipment such as hand lenses, field guides and binoculars will be available but please feel free to bring your own. Snacks and a water cooler will also be provided (we encourage the use of a reusable water bottle). Please be sure to dress for walking outdoors and in areas that may include poison ivy (long pants, long sleeves, closed-toe shoes, rain gear, bug spray/sun screen, etc.)
Volunteers are required to preregister* by contacting Summer Kennedy - Volunteer Coordinator, at naturevolunteer@metroparks.com or 810-494-6053.

Description
Every year, thousands of volunteers are needed to help out at the Metroparks to help preserve preserve the Metroparks and enhance the environment for generations to come. Volunteers of all skill level and interests are welcome!
Volunteers will give their time to nature or farm centers, or at Historic Wolcott Mill, to enrich the experience of every visitor. Nature lovers can plant and maintain flower gardens, or survey some of the Metroparks' plant and animal life. If you enjoy handy work, you can paint and refurbish signs, exhibits, and smaller buildings.
If golf is your favorite pastime, we can use your help on the fairways. Help maintain the pace of play, repair ball marks on the greens, move tee markers, clean trash, and perform other tasks that make golfing at one of the Metroparks' courses a most enjoyable past time.
Natural areas within the Metroparks need your help, too. Learn about supporting our native plant populations by removing invasive trees, shrubs, and plants, or collecting seeds to be sown at restoration sites within the Metroparks.
The Metroparks will provide all necessary tools and equipment, including water and snacks. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the week and weekends. Individuals and volunteer group opportunities are available.
