DESCRIPTION:
- The Telephone Crisis Counselor responds to Cherokee Family Violence Center’s domestic violence hotline. Volunteers will provide information, referrals, and listening support to victims of abuse who may be in crisis. Our hotline is staffed 24 hours a day, so there are a variety of shifts available for this position. This position allows volunteers to take calls from their own home or cell phone, after they have completed volunteer training and have developed sufficient skills in safety planning and supportive listening. Two days of in-person training, and a minimum of ten additional hours of shadowing staff members are required for this role. Volunteer training and shadowing of staff will take place in Canton, Georgia.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers crisis calls using proper procedure
- Provide information and referrals as necessary
- Complete crisis form
- Assess information for appropriate shelter admission
