ORGANIZATION: Prevention Resource Center

Mountain Home Montana provides a safe and loving home where young mothers can discover their strengths and their children can experience the joys of childhood. For the approximately 60 homeless young mothers and children we serve each year, Mountain Home Montana provides basic needs (food, shelter, clothing), opportunities to learn and practice independent living skills, and mental health care.

The VISTA will assess current staff training options, develop and implement a high-quality staff training program. Mountain Home Montana staff will be trained to model and teach residents healthy life skills with a focus on nutrition. The VISTA will create curriculum and educational materials for staff to use when working with teen mothers and their babies. In addition, the VISTA will address volunteer recruitment and retention by developing a volunteer recruitment plan, volunteer database, and volunteer orientation program. Since volunteers serve often work directly with teen mothers and their babies, the VISTA will develop strong recruitment, screening, and retention strategies. The VISTA will also create a community outreach plan, to include social media, with the goal of improving access to Mountain Home Montana’s outpatient mental health services for young mothers and their children. This position is located in Missoula.
