Mission Statement
Helping people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder heal through the use of service dogs.
Description
4 Paws 2 Freedom helps people who have survived a severe trauma, such as combat veterans and first responders, regain their independence and purpose in life.
People who have been exposed to a traumatic event or events can develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which can prevent them from living a normal life. The symptoms can lead to the inability to leave the home as well as suicide. Most of our students are veterans of war. Service dogs can help in many ways. They can be trained to provide a buffer zone between their human and others, recognize repetitive motions, alert to the approach of someone from behind, guide their human to a safe place, turn on lights in a dark room and interrupt nightmares, along with many other vital tasks.
It is extremely important that our students bond with their puppy or dog. That is why our students take their puppy or dog through the entire training process from start to completion as a Certified Service Dog Team. We use positive motivational training techniques to secure a loving partnership between human and canine.
Our newest project has us placing comfort dogs into public safety agencies like Fire Stations and Police Departments.
