Position Title: Education Coordinator, Theatre

Reports To: Board of Directors
Hours: Flexible

Compensation: Volunteer opportunity until further reviewed by finance committee.

Start Date: October 1, 2016

Position Summary: The Education Coordinator plays a key role in helping PerformOUTKC provide outstanding creative and learning experiences to young people, as well as fostering a productive work environment fueled by fun, creativity and learning. This position serves primarily as an arts administrator, creating and managing education programs and services, program documentation, marketing and social media. Additionally, the candidate should have theatre education and teaching experience and be passionate about furthering POKC goals, programs, mission and vision.

Background: PerformOUTKC, Kansas City's creative arts program for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Ally youth. With a focus towards celebrating ten years of artistic excellence, we’d like to share our renewed vision through the creative and educational arts with new talent. PerformOUTKC has performed at community festivals and local schools, and has collaborated with the Mid-America Freedom Band, the world re-known Heartland Men's Chorus and Coterie Theatre’s Project Pride, inspiring, challenging, educating and encouraging its audiences. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for all youth.
  • Plan and coordinate nine monthly creative arts workshops with a quarterly review or showcase. Workshops will commence January 2017.
  • Source and implement subject matter/teaching artists to facilitate or co-facilitate workshops.
  • Prepare and gather reports for feedback on program evaluations and assessments.
  • Create workshop documents, forms, and program plans.
  • Communicate with teaching artists and school (theatre) representatives via phone, email and in-person meetings for relevant workshop topics.
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator when needed.
  • Prepare and submit a monthly progress report to the board of directors.

Other duties to include:

  • Represent POKC at community theatre meetings, collaboration talks and/or events.
  • Collaborate and engage in other youth theatre companies or organizations
  • Support area arts education events as necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or Fine Arts. A combination of education and/or comparable work experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
  • Attention to detail and highly organized
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Strong time and task management
  • Ability to mentor and motivate youth
  • Social media and/or public relations experience
