The Basics: How the EF Program Works

EF Educational Homestay Programs (EHP) enables students from around the world to experience the American Life first-hand. For 2 weeks during the summer, a group of students from China, ages 10-13 will venture to the US and live with volunteer host families throughout your community. Students are in classes and participating in cultural activities Monday-Friday 8-6pm. The remainder of their time is spent with you, the host family!

Whether you are showing off your favorite places in town, sharing family traditions, participating with your student in an EF activity or learning about the student’s own culture back home, this experience will be as rewarding for you as it is for your student.

Being a Host Family

As a host family, you are the heart of your student's program. You help develop their language skills, you are their window to American culture, and you welcome them into your family as one of your own. Host Families are asked to set an extra place at the table, provide a bed for the student to sleep in, provide transportation the local course center and to share their daily life with a young person from abroad. From the simplest activities such as exploring the grocery store, to special occasions such as a family camping trip, every moment will be an exciting, new experience for you and your student! American Students can also earn up to 45 hours of community service!

Mission Statement

Our mission and our passion are one and the same. For almost 50 years, we've helped millions of people become citizens of the world by breaking down barriers of language, culture and geography. Through cultural exchanges, educational travel, language training and degree programs we are the World Leader in International Education.

Description

By hosting an international student with EHP, you will introduce your family to an exciting new global experience. As a host family, you will get to share in your student’s daily discovery of the U.S, hear the excitement in their voice when they tell you about their activities, and watch their language skills develop. During these adventures together, you will break down the barriers of language and culture while creating lifelong friendships! Our short term programs are perfect for our Host Families' busy lifestyles. Hosting with EHP allows you and your family to experience another culture without having to make a long-term commitment.
