One VISTA member is sought to serve as Community Relations Specialist with Milestones Area Agency on Aging. This member will work in tandem with other VISTAs to develop programming in Iowa's aging network, including LifeLong Links (LLL) Aging and Disability Resource Centers, the Volunteer Ombudsman Program (VOP), and the Office of the Substitute Decision Maker, and support services offered to older Iowans, Iowans with disabilities, and disabled veterans.
The selected candidate must be available to begin on approximately August 1, 2016. Bachelor's degrees are preferred but not required. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.
The selected candidate will:
* collaborate with Agency staff to develop and refine an outreach plan for the region.
* identify new audiences for outreach.
* research funding opportunities in the region.
* present information, attend meetings, and engage in other opportunities to connect with potential funders.
* develop and plan special events.
* work with media, marketing, and advertising.
* evaluate effect of outreach and fundraising efforts.
* plan for sustainable continuation and implementation of funding resources.
Benefits include: $11,676 living stipend, health plan, $5,775 education scholarship or cash completion bonus, and more.

The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman is to protect the health, safety, welfare, and rights of individuals residing in long-term care by investigating complaints, seeking resolutions to problems, and providing advocacy with the goal of enhancing quality of life and care.
Description
The Long-Term Care Ombudsmen are there to help answer questions about assisted living and elder group programs, nursing and residential care facilities, as well as the wide variety of issues that arise. They are here to support the choices of residents and tenants and act as an advocate.
