Girl in NEO's Noodle Kidoodle Obstacle Course

NEO will have a large setup at this year's City of Houston 4th of July Freedom Over Texas Festival and Concert! NEO's area will include our "Backyard Bass" Fishing Tournament, Mock Campsite, Noodle Kidoodle Obstacle Course, and camp games!

Volunteers are needed to assist children and families in enjoying these fun activities. You will play with the kids, help facilitate games and activities, and talk to the public about NEO and what we do.

This is a super fun event, and you'll never be without a smile plastered on your face!

This is Houston's largest annual public event, and thousands of people will be out to enjoy some quality family time together. Help us show families how easy it is to spend memorable time with their children outdoors!

Volunteers get in to the event for free, and dinner is provided!

Description

Nature & Eclectic Outdoors (NEO) is a Houston based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated getting people outdoors and in better connection with nature. We host weekly events and activities in the Greater Houston Area as well as activities throughout Texas and the country. NEO kindles a deeper passion for life by connecting people to nature and each other.

Our mission is to help people lead more outdoor oriented lives for better health, happiness, and life balance.

NEO partners with local schools, the YMCA, Texas Parks & Wildlife, the Houston Parks Board, and various government agencies to facilitate events and activities that encourage people to enjoy the outdoors. These events include night hikes, camping, backpacking, kayaking, travel, and more.

We also host urban events at local school and YMCA campuses, community centers, and park to bring outdoor actities and educational events to those who may not be able to travel outside of their neighborhoods. Many of these events are held at schools that do not have the budget to take field trips. These events can include angling education clinics, urban campouts, "Outdoor Fun 101" clinics, "Career Day" presentations that educate students on outdoor oriented careers, and more.

NEO even incorporates Project Wild, Aquatic Wild, and Growing Up Wild curriculum into our events help inspire the next generation of green space stewards. All NEO events encourage the development of critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, and collaboration skills in our youth.

Our "Wilderness Kids" initiative focuses not only on kids, but getting families spending quality time together outdoors. We recognize that it is difficult for children to develop healthier outdoor lifestyle habits if their parents are not educated in outdoor skills such as camping, biking, kayaking, etc. Because of this, parents are encouraged to participate in activities with their children.

Volunteers make all of this possible! NEO is always looking for dedicated volunteers to assist with various events and activities that we facilitate. We also need volunteers to help with fundraising, event planning, and more. We look forward to growing our cause and changing lives with you! The best part is that our volunteer opportunities are a ton of fun, and you get instant gratification in the form of smiling faces and lots of "Thank you's!" Come enjoy the outdoors, help NEO change lives, and have a blast doing it!

Once again, donations and funding are key to what NEO does. Equipment such as backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, kayaks, etc. are needed. We are also searching for affordable office and storage space.

Please donate to NEO today at https://www.neoproject.org/donate. Thank you!
