The HOSTS (Help One Student to Succeed) Program is a nationally recognized mentoring program which provides one-on-one attention to children and has proven to make significant improvements in their reading and math skills. A mentor works one hour per week with an individual student on materials and activities prepared by the HOSTS coordinator to target specific literacy and math skills. Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Neighbor to Neighbor is committed in our mission to provide holistic and comprehensive high quality resources for youth, children and their families. We are grassroots in our practice and are committed first and foremost to these grassroots relationships. We believe that through these committed, caring relationships mixed with high quality structured resources, youth and their family members will not only move forward but will also be the catalyst and example to lead the way for positive long lasting change that will break the cycle of poverty in our urban communities and ultimately provide productive leaders for the future of our nation.
Description
Since 1994, the staff and volunteers of Neighbor to Neighbor have focused on building strong one-to-one relationships with youth and their families in the downtown/southeast neighborhoods of Raleigh. From these listening partnerships, a vision has been fleshed out and continues to emerge from the community itself. Specific alternative programs that address community needs have emerged to help provide a high quality bridge to the future. N2N is committed to holistic youth development by stepping in the gap and providing consistent, quality and comprehensive resources for youth and their families. Through this we believe young people will make positive choices, rather than fall prey to negative elements.
