United Health Care (UHC), a Medicaid provider, is partnering with Gleaners to provide prescribed boxes of healthy fresh produce, dairy products, meat and dry goods to UHC members who frequently use medical services due to poor health. Participants have been identified and enrolled by UHC based on specific criteria.
A Gleaners truck driver will be delivering the food and setting up the distribution area. A UHC staff member will be checking-in participants during the distribution hours of 4-6 pm. Gleaners volunteers will help distribute the food to the participants.
Specifically, volunteers will:
Lift boxes from a pallet to a table. Volunteers will then help to load the food from the boxes into the participants’ shopping bags.
Load frozen and refrigerated food from coolers or food storage boxes onto table for distribution
Place empty boxes back on the pallet for reuse.
Distribute fresh produce, as individual units, or by bagging multiple units together.
Assist client in offering or selecting items for a sharing table
Offer leftover perishable food to persons identified by Butzel or UHC staff
Sanitize tables at the beginning and end of each distribution.
Move non-perishable leftover food, racks and tables to designated storage area at end of distribution.
