Work to protect the rights of elders and persons with disabilities by becoming a volunteer Ombudsman Associate with Long Term Care Ombudsman. Be part of a friendly and dedicated team making sure nursing home and other long-term care consumers receive the high-quality standards of living and care they deserve.
*Regularly visit nearby long-term care facilities
*Educate residents about their rights
*Observe facility quality
*Resolve residents' complaints
*Become a trusted friend to residents
No experience necessary. Volunteers receive 12 hours of classroom training, provider orientation and complaint handling and are then certified by the State of Ohio.
Gain skills in problem solving, negotiation and mediation, along with making a difference in the lives of residents of all ages.

Description
The Long Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO) advocates for long term care consumers. Since 1977, LTCO has served as a "voice" for residents of nursing homes, residential and adult care facilities, and consumers of home care services. LTCO: * Responds to and resolves complaints, such as inadequate care, privacy issues, choices in daily life, and admission and discharge problems; * Represents the consumer's perspective in legislative and policy issues; * Provides selection assistance for those who need long term care; * Provides information relating to Medicaid and Medicare; * Educates residents, families and staff about residents rights; and * Provides information regarding aging issues.
