Summer is right around the corner and we have a great summer job opportunity for college students, especially those interested in pursuing a career in Education!
AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. The VISTA Summer Associate program offers individuals the opportunity to support our community for 8 weeks during the summer. Summer Literacy Associates are full-time VISTAs that serve for 8 weeks (June 20-August 14).
This summer, we are expanding our Summer Literacy Program to serve more youth in our community. Summer VISTAs would be placed in public libraries and/or non-profit organizations to build capacity so we can provide additional summer programming to underserved populations. The goal of the program is to deter summer reading loss and to engage youth in literacy and other learning opportunities.
Members will be working with school age youth over the summer to provide free engaging activities with a specific focus on literacy at free summer meal sites around Spokane County. Mostly members will be having lots of fun with school age students throughout the summer! Whatever the task or challenge, VISTA Summer Associates make a lasting difference for communities in need.
AmeriCorps VISTA has many benefits! In addition to playing a key role in the war on poverty, members will receive a living stipend, an education award worth $1,222 (or a cash stipend), and professional development.
