Culture Food Share
It's potluck day at Women's Group, and the food is as varied as the clothing style.

Every Friday, CWS-Durham hosts a Global Women's Group. Newly arrived refugee women gather together for two hours to build community and support one another on their individual journeys. Many of these women have children, and in order to fully participate in the group activities, they need a temporary respite from Mom-Duty. We are looking for 3 engaging, patient, and fun volunteers to create and implement activities for young children ages 2-10.

Responsibilities:

  • Activities or curriculum development and implementation for children (i.e. yoga for kids, nutrition activities)
  • Flexible adaptation in these activities to accomodate various needs of children.
  • Creative communication with children for whom English is a second language.

Mission Statement

The Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Program is committed to advancing the Triangle as a safe and welcoming home for new arrivals. We work to connect our clients with community resources in order to meet their immediate needs, promote long-term self-sufficiency, and take back control of their lives.

Description

Church World Service is one of 10 U.S. voluntary agencies upon which the U.S. Refugee Program depends to welcome refugees to America. CWS affiliate agencies work hand-in-hand with seven participating denominations, local congregational cosponsors, and many other community volunteers to ensure that the newcomers have food, clothing, and other essentials as they help refugees learn English, find their way around town, enroll their children in school, look for work, and quickly become self-sufficient.
