Mission Statement

Asian Pacific Women's Center (APWC), founded in 1993, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of affordable, transitional housing for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence.

Description

APWC's Transitional Housing Program, which welcomed its first residents in May 2000, is one of the first transitional housing facilities in the United States to focus on the needs of Asian and Pacific Islander domestic violence survivors by providing culturally sensitive and language appropriate services. In addition to providing transitional housing for domestic violence survivors, APWC offers child care for residents, life skills training, multilingual counselors and case managers, support groups and individual counseling, job training and career development, and legal and medical referrals. This multicultural and multilingual center has been steadily building partnerships and working relationships with other Los Angeles community social service providers, job training and employment service providers, medical providers, and legal service providers. The collective mission is to offer domestic violence survivors and their families a safe haven to acquire the necessary skills and personal strength for self-sufficiency.
