We are recruiting volunteers willing to sit with a patient at their bedside while they are transitioning from life to death, or "actively dying" in the last 24-48 hours of life. Volunteers will be specially trained to provide presence, companionship, and comfort for patients who have little or no family members to be with them when they are dying. You would volunteer for a shift of at least 2 hours, but no more than 6. Basic Patient Volunteer training is a prerequisite (8-10 hours) and the training to be a Compassionate Companion Volunteer is about 3 hours. Description
Grace Hospice cares for patients whose medical conditions are not responding to treatment or for those patients who choose to not seek aggressive medical care at the end stage of life. Hospice focuses on comfort care rather than curative care. The goal of hospice is for patients to remain as comfortable and pain-free as possible in their own home or the home of a loved one through the end of life. Care can also be provided in a long-term care facility or an assisted living facility.
