Collections volunteers are vital to the care of the Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum's collection, helping to preserve our veterans’ histories. These activities can include photographing artifacts, writing detailed artifact reports and researching records. Are you skilled with fabric, we have a large collection of uniforms and cloth equipment. If you are more of a reader, we have archival and research work just waiting for a special volunteer to take an interest. If you love local history this is your opportunity to help honor those from Winnebago County that have served in the Armed Forces.

Get hands on with the history and artifacts here at Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum. An eye for detail and patience are great skills for this position. Training provided. Hours available vary, Memorial Hall is open Mon-Fri, 9am to 4 pm.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum!

Description

Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum stands due to the vision of Winnebago County residents who wished to honor the memory of those who fought in defense of the United States of America. Today Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum still stands to honor the area’s veterans, a living memorial to those men and women who served and are still serving in our nation’s armed forces.

Dedicated in 1903 by President Theodore Roosevelt with these words "No fitting memorial could be erected to the men who fought, than a hall such as this - a hall beautiful because of the uses to which it is consecrated". Visitors are greeted with three floors of exhibits featuring local Veterans of all United States conflicts with artifacts donated throughout the years.

Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum is a property of Winnebago County and receives donations through the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, a tax exempt, 501(c)3 agency. The Hall is available as a rental to the community for private and public events as well as home to several veterans support agencies. Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum is open to the public for tours Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. Large group and Scout tours by appointment.
