Annual Event Committee Member (seeking 3-4 people beginning Winter 2016)

Reporting to the Development Director, the Annual Event Committee Members will guide funding, logistics, implementation and follow up for EKARI’s Annual Event. This role will work closely with different EKARI Foundation committees, Executive Director, Board President and community partners to identify and achieve overall goals for fundraising events and efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the overall design and strategic planning of EKARI’s annual fundraising event

  • Assist in the evaluation of event venues and reporting cost-benefit analysis to board of directors

  • Assist in planning and orchestrating the event

  • Determine roles needed, make assignments, determine time-lines, and recruit other volunteers & stakeholders to help in logistics, implementation and evaluation after the event takes place

  • Contact and network with volunteer event planning consultants and local venues that offer advice and cost estimates geared towards maximizing donation pledges and improving attendee experience

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting

  • Strong computer skills

  • Well organized, detail-oriented and resourceful

  • Previous fundraising & donor outreach

  • Event coordination experience

  • Ability to ask for donations

  • Enjoys engaging a diverse community

  • Skilled at planning and organizing

  • Experience leading fundraising events, including booking the venue, advertising, inviting attendees, ordering food, arranging activities, working with vendors and other event coordination

  • May need to solicit corporate sponsorships and work with EKARI’s major donors

  • Excellent management, leadership, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; good multi-tasker; pays close attention to detail while keeping eye on the big picture

  • Committed to EKARI’s mission

Time Commitment

This position requires a commitment of 3 - 5 hours per week during the months of October to June. We offer a lot of flexibility in when and how you complete those hours and many of the tasks and responsibilities can be done remotely, working online, at a time that is convenient for you. Every committee member is invited to attend a monthly board of directors meeting.

Compensation

This is a volunteer position. There will be no financial compensation. Our organization is 100% volunteer run, excluding staff in Malawi and our Executive Director.
