Since 1970 Meals on Wheels People has provided a nutritional and social lifeline for seniors through 30 meal sites in Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties and Meals on Wheels delivery to homebound seniors. With the help of more than 8,000 volunteers, the nonprofit organization now serves 5,000 meals daily and more than 1.3 million meals each year.

General Responsibilities:

• Deliver meals to homebound Meals on Wheels participants
• May assist with packing hot and cold meals if needed

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Arrive at the center on time (if unable to attend, please notify center manager)
• Assist in packing coolers and count items to make sure you have the correct number of cold and hot packs, milk, box lunches, Oregonian newspapers, and any other food items being delivered
• Under constant and direct supervision of the delivery driver, deliver meals to assigned addresses
• Upon arrival at each home, take a little time to be pleasant and chat with client
• Notify driver immediately if you have problems or concerns
• Accept any donation envelopes from clients and give them to driver

Average Time Commitment:

• 1.5-2 hours/day

Age Requirements:

• 18 years old
• If younger than 18, family members may ride along as passengers without being subjected to background investigation

Minimum Qualifications:

• Submit to a criminal background investigation
• Exhibit respectful and calm demeanor
• Good manners and patience
• Able to work well with a diverse group of individuals
• Able to demonstrate flexibility, initiative, patience, and reliability
