The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is gearing up for our Princeton Tour de Cure + Step Out: Walk, a cycling and walk event that not only encourages camaraderie and healthy living, but also raises funds for the ADA. This year is especially exciting for us because it is our 25th anniversary! Every mile spent cycling or walking and every dollar that is raised will help prevent and cure the disease that affects over 29 million Americans. However, the event requires the support of volunteers in order to be a success! Please consider volunteering for this important cause. Volunteers will get a commemorative t-shirt and a free lunch voucher. Volunteers are needed on the event date, June 26, 2016:

  • Registration/Check-In Area - Welcomes the riders, helps check them in and gets them out on the route.
  • Food/Water Areas - Make sure riders are fueled properly with breakfast, lunch and lots of water!
  • Red Rider/Red Strider/VIP Tents - Ensure that riders receive special recognition if they are riding with diabetes or if they are a VIP.
  • Safety & Security - Help riders get on their way quickly and easily by helping with areas such as car and bike parking.
  • SAG (Support And Gear vehicles) - Drives the route to look for any riders needing assistance. Helps riders with mechanical problems and transports tired riders to the finish if necessary.
  • Medical - Treats injuries as necessary. We're looking for EMTs, RNs and others with a medical background.
  • Mechanical Support - Provides bicycle repairs and inspections for the riders.
  • Motorcycle Escort - Monitors route activity, cruises the course looking for any riders needing assistance, and tracks the first and last riders on the course.
  • Route Marshals - Participants who are experienced riders and serve as an example of safe riding. Marshals help ensure the safety of all participants by reminding riders of the rules of the road.
  • Rest Stop - Serves refreshments and offers support, encouragement and lots of cheering!
  • Finish line - Cheers riders in after completing their day, serves refreshments and distributes T-shirts.

Description

Volunteer Power
The moving force behind our work is a network of more than one million volunteers nation wide, including a membership of 430,000 diabetes patients and their families, and a professional society of more than 18,000 physicians, scientists, certified diabetes educators, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, social workers, and educators.

In addition to our well know fund-raising events, the ADA provides learning sessions and information through a variety of community-based presentations and activities focused on reaching the diagnosed and those at high risk for diabetes. These free presentations include bi-lingual information on the importance of physical activity, making healthy food choices, food portion control and much more. Last year our outreach efforts reached several thousand people in the state of New Jersey alone. We couldn't have done this without the support from volunteers like you. Volunteering is rewarding and you can be assured that you have made a difference in someone's life.
