Volunteer your time and experience and help a newcomer in Greensboro. Direct Support volunteers help refugee newcomers in their first three months adjust to life in the States. These first few months are a difficult time of transition and direct supports would help to ease this process. Within your role you would help by practicing English with the newcomer, helping them learn basic financial procedures in the US, health and medical procedures, household responsibilities, aspects of American culture, and employment-related skills. By helping with community integration and understanding, the goal is for the newcomer to build community connections and have a understanding of community resources to reach self-sufficiency

Volunteers interested should be able to commit to helping the families for at least two hours a week for at least three months. Volunteers will also be required to complete a certified background check. The next upcoming volunteer training for direct support volunteers is on Wednesday May 25th from 5-7pm. Registration is required and can be completed at the following link.
