ORGANIZATION: Disability Allies

Job Objective:

The Disability Allies (DA) is dedicated to providing social opportunities to connect young adults and children with and without disabilities. The Volunteer Website Developer is a part time position. You must be willing to join us at our monthly committee meetings at the East Brunswick Public Library at 10am on the Second Saturday of the Month. As a developer you will work with technology team to deliver the new Disability Allies web site, develop, test, troubleshoot and enhance website features based on requests from the users and committee chairs/teams. You will Migrate content from old site to new site and provide assistance to create content while the site features are under construction.

Technical requirements:

  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience with CMS such as Joomla, Drupal or WordPress. The site is being developed using Joomla so experience with that is preferred.
  • Familiar with web development using PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Familiar with databases and SQL
  • Understands the 3-tier web design architecture
  • Understanding of AWS hosting (bonus)

Other Requirements

  • Should be able to dedicate at least 4-6 hours a week on assigned tasks.
  • Good communication skills and have a proactive attitude.
  • Should be able to attend weekly 1-hour Skype/Google hangout calls on weekends and meet in-person once a month on a weekend
  • Should be able to estimate time and effort on assigned tasks and provide weekly status updates.
  • Able to work in a dynamic environment.

The purpose of the Disability Allies is to plan team building activities that connect young adults and children with and without disabilities. At our events we pair each individual up with a mentor. Our events are open to any young adult that has a disability, knows someone with a disability or is supportive of people with disabilities. Currently our events will take place primarily in central New Jersey. We do plan on expanding and we will soon be doing events in all of New Jersey.
