A group shot from our 2015 Christmas Party

We are in need of additional volunteers to help with our weekday Homework Help and Drop-In times. This program runs throughout the year, with abreviated hours in July and August.

Volunteers are needed Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays for 2:30-6pm & 6-9 pm shifts. Volunteering can happen once a week, twice a month, weekly, or as agreed upon with our Director.

Responsibilities include:

  • helping students with homework
  • encouraging progress, keeping students focused and celebrating successes
  • guiding students in time management skills as needed
  • building relationships with youth through conversations, homework help, board games, movies, etc.

No experience is required, and all volunteers will meet one on one with our Director for conversation, questions, and basic training. All that is needed is a willing heart, a commitment to being present during your volunteer hours, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of the young people at our center.

Mission Statement

The mission of Rhawnhurst Turning Point is to provide a center for 6-12th grade youth where they can learn, grow, serve and have fun in a safe environment, supported by caring volunteers and Christian staff.

Description

Rhawnhurst Turning Point is a community non-profit that serves 6-12 th grade youth to help them grow in every aspect of their lives: academically, artistically, relationally, socially and spiritually.

To do this we offer Homework Help and Drop-In times Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-9 pm, small group art classes in the evenings during the school year, a weekend program that includes times of fellowship, fun, learning, and service projects allowing youth to make a difference in their community through service, and much more.

All of our programs are offered completely free of charge to all 6-12 th grade youth without discrimination.

Rhawnhurst Turning Point began out of a joint idea and mission venture between Redemption Lutheran and Rhawnhurst Presbyterian Churches in Northeast Philadelphia in 2007. After much research and planning, we opened as a separate 501c3 non-profit in a storefront in our community on October 25, 2011. Since then, we have worked with almost 250 who have visited our center over 5,500 times. We have a group of amazing volunteers that work with our youth, building relationships, helping with homework, teaching art classes, paying games, watching movies, serving side by side, and simply providing healthy relationships with caring adults that will encourage and strengthen the youth whom we serve.
