Mission Statement

The EQUUS Foundation is only national animal welfare charity in the United States solely dedicated to horse welfare and the horse-human bond. Our mission is to keep America's horses safe, and to share their magic and power with as many people as possible.

Description

As the only national animal welfare charity in the United States solely dedicated to horse welfare and the horse-human bond, our mission is to keep America's horses safe, and to share their magic and power with as many people as possible. 130,000 American horses are transported over the border to slaughter each year. Most are healthy, young and have untapped potential, and none deserve this inhumane end of life. We believe that the bond with horses enriches the human body and spirit. Our efforts are focused on ensuring that all of America’s horses are safe and live in comfort with purpose and dignity.

The EQUUS Foundation helps over 1,000 equine charities across the United States be better and stronger at what they do by supporting programs that rescue, rehab, retrain and re-home America’s horses for careers as companions, teachers and healers, including equine assisted activities and therapies for people with special needs, especially children and veterans. We provide financial support to the charities operating at the highest standards.

We are committed to building a more compassionate America where horses inspire us as amazing athletes; grace our lives as companions; nurture the next generation of equestrians; perform miracles for people with special needs and when the time comes, receive a humane and peaceful end of life.
