Archaeological Dig
NPS Ranger and students at Mill Ruins Park dig site.

Warning! This is a super fun opportunity! Volunteers will help students literally uncover the riverfront history of downtown Minneapolis. No archaeological experience is needed but volunteers should have an interest in youth education and history. Volunteers will assist lead staff at a simulated Archeological Dig located at Mill Ruins Park in downtown Minneapolis. This position requires the ability to work in an outdoor setting, kneel and do some light lifting. The dig is part of the National Park Service program, Journey to the Falls. Volunteers are needed to work one or two days on May 20, May 23-25, May 31, or June 1. Hours vary by the day but are generally 8:30-2pm. May 20 also has 2 opening on the riverboat portion of the trip. Free parking provided.

The Volunteers-In-Parks program is a joint program with Mississippi Park Connection. Mississippi National River and Recreation Area represents America's greatest river, the Mississippi, which weaves together the natural and cultural heritage and economic vitality of the region. The National Park Service works with partners to foster increased citizen awareness, advocacy, and enjoyment of the resources of the Mississippi River.

Volunteer-In-Parks provides people with opportunities to discover, experience, and enjoy the diversity of the Mississippi River while also preserving it for future generations through volunteer restoration projects and education programs.
