At any time in Metro Louisville, there are 6,000-7,000 abandoned and vacant properties, many in our most underserved communities. You can help brighten these blighted properties for local residents and neighborhoods. Bring your imagination and wear some old clothes to the 4th Annual Blight Out and Brighten Up event on Saturday May 21 at Solid Waste Division headquarters, 600 Meriwether Avenue. volunteers will paint 200 8-foot by 4-foot plywood boards before the Department of Codes & Regulations uses the panels to board up abandoned properties. This is a great project that brings family, friends, and the community together. The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If you can't be there on May 21, consider donating paint, brushes, drop cloths, coffee, donuts, snacks, water, sodas, ice, pizzas, rollers, and containers.
