Youngstown Steel Valley Rugby Women's Team invites women of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, athletic ability, and age (18+) to work together for a common goal - intense fun playing a team sport. The rugby community prides itself on human connection, body love and acceptance, and personal achievement. We empower women on and off the field. Because we encourage all women to play with us, we see many different women in different stages of life and with different responsibilities. We have lawyers, doctors, police, strippers, servers, and engineers. We plan our lives to accommodate practice, but the challenge that we often have is that mothers have difficulty with childcare. After working 40+ hours a week, they simply can't afford more time away from their kids, nor additional childcare expenses. Their choices are to stay home and miss the most empowering activity they do, or bring their kids with them - which is what we would prefer. We would like to set up a volunteer opportunity to have 1-3 people attend our practice and just play with and monitor the kids while their moms (and dads) are practicing rugby 50 yards away. It's not babysitting or childcare completely, since the parents are present yet otherwise involved. It's more like someone to engage with them and have a good time. We practice Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6pm-8pm, at a couple different places in the Youngstown area. Our season is March-May, a little bit in the Summer, and then August - October. Volunteers need not be available every single practice, all year long.
