Position Description:
Assistants will be responsible for extracting information from hospital and other medical records. This includes patient demographics, infectious disease information, as well as symptoms and hospitalization data. The Data Entry Assistant will also be responsible for entering this data into databases. Assistants may also be called upon to assist with infectious disease investigations.
Qualifications:
Must have moderate computer skills. Experience and comfort with databases is essential. Prior medical experience and/or understanding of medical terminology is helpful but not required. Experience with Merlin and HMS databases is helpful, but not required.
Volunteers or interns that have interest in public health, epidemiology, and infectious disease tracking and management are encouraged to apply.
Training:
All volunteers/interns will be required to complete basic FDOH-Lake training requirements as well as any training requirements necessary regarding use and collection of confidential data (HIPAA training). Training on the various databases used by FDOH-Lake will also be provided as necessary. Mentorship and teaching about public health investigations, infectious disease tracking and reporting, and other monitoring activity is also available. Internship credit can be provided.
