Housing Works Bookstore Cafe
126 Crosby Street, SoHo

Housing Works Bookstore and Café is an entrepreneurial arm of Housing Works, a New York non-profit whose mission is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts. All of the books we sell are donated by members of the community, and a majority of the people that work in the bookstore are volunteers. You can find out more about Housing Works' mission, services, and advocacy by visiting our website: http://www.housingworks.org/.

We are currently looking for volunteers in Chicago because Housing Works is a partner of Book Expo America, which will for the first time in a while be held in Chicago rather than New York City. Historically, we have received large quantities of books from the publishers that attend the event and would really appreciate the help of local volunteers! This is a great opportunity for those interested in the literary work and HIV/AIDS advocacy.

We are looking for volunteers to help out during the following shift:

Saturday, May 14th 5:00-9:00pm

If you are only able to attend part of a shift, we may be able to accomodate you.

Please contact Ida Kutechko with any questions at volunteer@housingworksbookstore.org

About Housing Works

Location:

130 Crosby Street 7th Floor, New York, NY 10012, US

Mission Statement

Housing Works is a healing community of people living with and affected by HIV & AIDS. Our goal is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts.

Description

Housing Works is powered by a vibrant community of volunteers who lend their time, dedication, and passion to many different roles within our social enterprise department, Bookstore Cafe, and Thrift Shops.

Individuals and groups of volunteers assist our organization greatly, by coming together to better the communities that they live and work in. Housing Works is pleased to partner with corporations, universities, and community based groups, in the creation and implementation of volunteer projects that benefit homeless men and women living with HIV & AIDS. We are one of New York City’s largest and most successful support services for those in these under served communities, and becoming a part of the Housing Work’s family is an exciting way for companies to give back.

Each project challenges volunteers to develop new skills and engage new people, contributing to a greater sense of camaraderie. We welcome the opportunity to work with corporations to find volunteer opportunities that meet their needs and priorities. Volunteering with Housing Works is a great way for companies to engage employees while demonstrating their commitment to the fight against homelessness and AIDS, and the improvement of the lives of all at-risk New Yorkers.
