Jewish Family & Children’s Service of the Suncoast, Inc. (JFCS) along with Sarasota County, the City of Sarasota and other partner organizations are pleased to invite local homeless veterans to the 2016 "Stand Down" to be held 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 16, 2016.

The "Stand Down" will be held in Sarasota at the William L. Little Health and Human Services Center (Health Department), 2200 Ringling Blvd. and at the Payne Park Auditorium, a short walk away. The event is free and veterans will be able to ride free on Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) and Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) busses by identifying themselves as veterans.

The "Stand Down" event helps homeless veterans who are not already receiving services to access U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits and other services in a one-stop setting. They can also speak with representatives of local organizations providing mental health and substance-abuse treatment, and legal and employment services for information and referrals. Housing assistance will also be available for homeless veterans.
