Thought about foster caring for rescued dogs? Then we have a program for you. We work with local rescues and at-risk teens, training homeless dogs to be therapy dogs.

Our dog foster care parents are the back bone of our program. While our dogs are trained during the school day by disadvantaged teens, they need somewhere to go after school where their training is reinforced and they experience a home environment.

Foster families must be able to bring the dog to the program during school days for training. The dog can be dropped off on your way to work and picked up on your way home.

Our dog foster care parents are not financially responsible for any supplies related to dog care. This is typically a 3 month commitment. We have puppy sitters available to assist you with vacations and weekends away.

Mission Statement

Empowering Kids - Changing Lives - One Dog at a Time

Description

Our core program is offered at the Dorothy Student Thomas Center, a school for Exceptional Student Education within the Hillsborough County Public School system. This school serves as an alternative for students with extreme emotional and behavior disorders or other disorders that prevent them from attending a main stream public school.

While the focus of our programs is to help at-risk youth, we continue to serve people in need...because once the dogs are trained, they are placed with individuals in the community who have certified needs. These dogs go on to empower others through their service as a therapy or companion dog for those suffering from PTSD or anxieties and children with autism...giving them the chance to regain their independence and resume a more productive life.
