***CLAYTON COUNTY CHILD ADVOCATES***

Organization

Clayton County CASA
(0 reviews)

Description

Each year in Georgia thousands of children are thrust into court through no fault of their own. Some are victims of violence, psychological torment or sexual abuse. Others have been neglected or abandoned by their own parents. Most are frightened and confused. CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to provide an independent voice for their abused and neglected children who are brought into the court. They work to learn about the child's needs and make recommendations that will help the judge make far-reaching decisions that affect the child's future. The CASA volunteer remains involved to keep the focus on the child until he or she is placed in a safe, permanent home - no matter how long it takes.

Skills

  • Eligibility: CASA volunteers must be 21 years old. No special or legal background is required. Volunteers are screened closely for objectivity, competence and commitment, and a fingerprint check is required in addition to a thorough criminal history check through child protective services, the FBI, and local police.
