ORGANIZATION: The Hudson Gardens & Event Center

PURPOSE OF JOB: Support the day-to-day operations of the Welcome Center by greeting visitors, providing general Gardens information and directions to visitors, responding to phone inquiries, assisting with sales transactions and merchandising, and being a friendly ambassador of Hudson Gardens.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Duties include:

  • Greet and interact with visitors to Hudson Gardens in a welcoming, friendly, inviting and professional manner.
  • Convey general visitor information, including information about Garden features, educational programs, membership opportunities, and upcoming events.
  • Orient visitors to the Gardens by providing directions and information about program locations, restrooms, lunch facilities, etc.
  • Respond to phone and in-person inquiries and assist with light office work.
  • Assist with retail sales transactions using a computer and pricing and stocking merchandise.

Shift information:

  • Weekly shifts are available 7 days a week from 8:45 am - 5:15 pm, beginning April 2016.
  • A commitment for one, 3-4 hour shift per week preferred. Shift days and times are adaptable to the volunteer’s schedule.

Location:

  • Indoors within the Welcome Center.

Attire and equipment (provided by the volunteer):

  • Closed-toe shoes; dark or khaki pants (no denim); a nametag and uniform shirt will be provided.

QUALIFICATIONS:

General:

  • Must be aged 18 or older.
  • Prospective applicants will be interviewed.
  • Submit to and pass a criminal record and National Sex Offender check prior to acceptance into this position.
  • Demonstrate comfort and ability with high energy situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with diverse groups of people.
  • Previous customer service experience and/or retail experience is preferred.

Physical demands:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time; walk; and sit.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Talk or hear.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds.

Description

The Hudson Gardens & Event Center is a regional display garden, showcasing plants that grow well in Colorado’s Front Range climate. Our thirty acres of gardens are designed to educate and inform our guests by providing diverse opportunities to gain knowledge about plants, gardening, wildlife, and environmental stewardship. Hudson Gardens is also a multipurpose recreational facility featuring educational displays and programs, cultural and community events, and venues for private social and corporate gatherings. Since 2012, Hudson Gardens has offered free general admission to the community.
