Growing Together Mentoring Program believes that successful individuals do not achieve success all alone. Youth that are supported by a mentor can make these necessary positive changes to reduce unproductive behaviors. By matching an adult mentor with a youth, the program will support the development of personalized plans, gain necessary resources and skills, achieve personalized goals, and exhibit constructive choices and behaviors.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Growing Together Mentoring Program is to empower at-risk youth in our community to make positive life choices, achieve personal goals, and experience successes with the support of a mentor(s). The agency’s, as a whole, mission is centered on providing positive alternatives to court. Growing Together Mentoring Program also has a focus in preventing further criminal behaviors, thus preventing further court involvement, through pairing a youth with a mentor and support team.

Description

Growing Together aims to pair at-risk children and teens, and their families with supportive adults. The program is operated by Center for Community-Based Center through the county Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.

The program is designed to surround the mentor with support and structure as much as the person being mentored. Behind each pairing is a plan developed by the courts and juvenile justice counselors, schools, families and the program director, Chandrika Brown, along with program assistants.

We are looking for volunteers who can devote at least eight hours a month for six months to juveniles transitioning out of juvenile justice programs. Mentors and their matches will be paired for six months and attend weekly recreational activities and monthly large-group information sessions.

*We also welcome those who can't devote eight hours per month to mentor but would like to help out in other ways!
