Position - Administrative Volunteer

Description: HomeAid Orange County’s purpose is to end homelessness. Orange County is one of the wealthiest counties in the United States with over 3 million in residence, yet nearly 12,000 individuals experience homelessness each year. With the specific objective of ending homelessness, HomeAid’s three unique focus areas of advocacy, development of shelters and service allow the community to engage in this critical issue that affects thousands in the community. The part-time position is designed for individuals who have time to give back and make a difference in their community, such as; students, part-time workers, those reentering the workforce, and individuals who have already enjoyed a successful career. The candidate will gain exposure to administrative support work that is vital in allowing HomeAid to provide a safe place to sleep at night for homeless children, families, and individuals in Orange County .

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work directly with HomeAid’s Project Manager and participate in the process of shelter/housing development for homeless families and individuals in HomeAid Orange County. Responsibilities and how this role is effective in ending homelessness:

  • Assist the Project Manager in recruiting new builders, suppliers and subcontractors for construction/development of housing/shelter development projects in Orange County.
  • Assist with updates to project schedules, attend development meetings as appropriate.
  • Database management
  • Prepare and send basic project communications to contractors and service providers.
  • Assist Project Manager during the bidding process of construction projects, analyzing budgets or pro formas, fill out construction contracts and visiting field operations as required to expedite the timely progress and completion of projects.
  • Track and input figures for final job cost summary of all expenses and evaluation of in-kind donations for labor and materials upon the completion of projects.
  • May choose to assist in providing leadership throughout various community service events hosted by service providers and those hosted by HomeAid Orange County as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This part-time internship position is expected to require 10-30 hours per week for a minimum of three months. Applicants should be self-motivated, creative and disciplined, with an interest in real estate and/or the non-profit industry. The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Detailed and conscientious
  • Though not required for position, candidate would ideally be comfortable placing phone calls to potential donors, contractors, subcontractors, and government agencies.

Hours: 10-30 hours, flexible scheduling, required office hours range from 8:30am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.

Description

Since 1989, HomeAid Orange County has constructed 70 different housing projects for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Our unique model, rooted in in-kind donations of labor and materials, saves 30% of market-rate costs or more on each HomeAid construction project. Simply put, HomeAid is a nonprofit developer of shelters and affordable housing for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Survivors of domestic violence, teen mothers, abused and abandoned children, veterans, people living with mental illness and/or HIV/AIDs, and families all call HomeAid housing projects their home.
