Homework Center Assistant, Watsonville Public Library

Description

Watsonville Public Library maintains two homework centers, one at each of their branches. The centers are open 3:30 to 7:00 Monday through Thursday and typically serve 10 to 35 students daily who attend for homework & research help, and computer access.

Skills

  • Tutoring: Assist students grades 1-12 who use the centers on a drop-in basis. Students need help in a variety of subjects; volunteers might listen to them read, help them to understand homework directions, and offer encouragement. Volunteers aren't expected to be experts but are expected to enjoy working with children. Bilingual Spanish/English speakers are especially requested along with volunteers who have knowledge of educational theory and methods and/or previous tutoring experience.
