ORGANIZATION: Trailkeepers of Oregon

Trailkeepers of Oregon

Overview: Two short trails from the parking lot need to be graveled for easier access. This work party will be preparing the tread for the spread of the gravel, which will be done the following week.

About the area: One exit west of Multnomah Falls, this wayside pull out is popular for easy access to the Columbia River.

Project Description: The trail to the west of the parking lot, about 400 feet long, needs some minor tread work and widening in preparation for laying the fabric and gravel. The trail to the east of the parking lot will eventually need a short re-route; for this part of the project we will be preparing only the first 100’ of trail.

Hiking Information: Hike will be no more than 400 feet, on flat terrain.

What to expect: No experience is necessary. You will be working with experienced crew leaders to remove debris and roots from the existing trail to prepare for gravel. You can expect to work at your own pace for up to 6 hours on flat but uneven terrain, with a lunch break mid-day. We will work rain or shine.

What to bring:
-Lunch and plenty of water. There is no water at the site.
-Rain gear (jacket and pants)
-Work gloves
-Extra set of clothes to change into in case it is wet

What to wear:

Mission Statement

Inspiring action for the protection and enhancement of the Oregon hiking experience through advocacy, stewardship, education and outreach.

Description

Our organization was born out of the Portland Hikers Forum, a community forum for hiking enthusiasts that was established in 2006, and has now grown to become the Oregon Hikers Forum, TKO’s free, online community for hikers. As the original forum grew, a user-built field guide was created and has now grown to become the Oregon Hikers Field Guide, a free online resource hosted by TKO and maintained by dozens of volunteer authors.

Early on, the many volunteers behind the original hiking forum and field guide saw that many of our trails are at risk and in need of active champions and engaged stewards to advocate for them: TKO was formed by the forum community in the fall of 2007 to address these concerns. The heart of TKO’s mission is our effort to build, restore and maintain hiking trails across the state, promote hikers' interests, and foster ownership and conservation of our public lands.
