We are seeking a Social Media Intern (or dedicated volunteer) for the remainder of 2017. We're a mental health awareness organization (http://www.thisismybrave.org) and are gearing up for another year of amazing growth. Our estimate is this role requires 5-10 hours of work per week, with slightly more hours around our busy seasons (May-June and Sept-Oct).

This Is My Brave, Inc. provides a platform and a community for people affected by mental illness to share their stories through theater programs and community events. Our mission as a new non-profit organization is to ignite and actively promote a positive, national conversation on mental illness to end the stigma surrounding mental health disorders. We believe that every time we share a story, there's another crack helping to break down the stigma of mental illness.

We are seeking a Social Media college intern (or volunteer)- ideally someone studying psychology or social work, or even marketing with an interest in mental health - to help us with various projects. This is an unpaid internship, but offers excellent experience in a non-profit entreprenuerial environment with the opportunity to contribute your ideas and have your voice heard as a valuable contributor to the team.

Our physical location is Ashburn, Virginia, but we work out of home offices so this will be a work-from-home opportunity, with meetings in person (or via Skype) every other week to go over work and set new assignments.

Requirements:

  • Local to the DC metro area
  • Social media savvy (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google+, YouTube)
  • Ability to travel to Ashburn, VA bi-weekly (or do Skype meetings)
  • 5-10 hours a week
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must work well independently
  • Creative thinker, not afraid to offer up ideas for new and unique ways to reach our target audience
  • Video production skills (live video for social media mainly) a plus

This is an exciting chance to get involved - and have a voice - with an organization which is on the leading edge of social change when it comes to the way society views mental illness.

This will be a volunteer position starting in October and running through December, with the potential to be a year-long internship for the right candidate. Would love to speak with anyone who might be interested in learning more! To apply, please email: jennifer(at)thisismybrave.org and submit your resume and a video clip (can be shot on your smartphone or using a computer's webcam) telling us why you're interested in joining our team.

Mission Statement

The mission of This Is My Brave, Inc., is to end the stigma surrounding mental illness by sharing personal stories of individuals overcoming mental illness through poetry, essay and original music, live on stage, through stories submitted and published to our blog, and via our YouTube channel.

Description

This Is My Brave is the leading platform for individuals with lived experience to share their stories of living successful lives despite a diagnosis of a mental illness. Our organization is a 501(c)3 non-profit which serves the need to shine a light on mental health issues through artistic expression (spoken word poetry, original music and essay readings) while at the same time educating the general public about the importance of ending the stigma surrounding mental illness. We serve various cities where we are able to identify a volunteer producer to lead the effort to create a This Is My Brave performance for their community. Our reach is extended through the professional videotaping of each performance, which we then upload to our public YouTube channel for all to access.
