Cards from Kids

Just as children with their homemade card

Brought so much joy when I was down.

I was so sick my heart was scarred,

Just children with their homemade card.

To show their love, it was not hard,

Their love to me a peaceful gown.

Just children with their homemade card

Brought so much joy when I was down.

Silverado Hospice looking for children of all ages participate in our "Cards from Kids" program by decorating, writing, and creating special 4th of July cards to bring sunshine to the lives of our hospice patients and espcially our veteran patients. It may not seem like much, but some of our patients may not have the family and friends that send these, and it means a lot to them when they receive kind and thoughtful words and cards wishing them well. Right now, we are looking specifically for 4th of July cards. Because our patients are all on hospice, their information is protected by HIPAA, meaning that children/groups would not be making cards for specific people, but more generic cards that could be delivered to any one of our patients.

If you have any questions or concerns or would like to participate in this program, please contact Volunteer Program Coordinator, Trisha Burns, at tburns@silveradocare.com or (972) 409-9884 . We look forward to having the opportunity to partner with you in giving a smile and ray of sunshine to our hospice patients.

Mission Statement

Silverado Hospice's mission is to affirm the cycle of life by enhancing the quality of living for those at the end of life. The Silverado standard is to care compassionately for patients and their families and to empower those we serve to have quality of life options that afford them comfort and dignity.

Description

Silverado Hospice of Dallas/Fort Worth has a meaningful need for volunteers throughout the metroplex. Silverado patients and families experience L.I.F.E. (Love, Innovation, Family and Engagement) through our special hospice programs.

Hospice volunteers are ordinary people of all ages with extraordinary love and a common bond, concern for others. Our volunteers are an integral part of our Circle of Care team. Because we believe hospice is a philosophy and not a place, we meet the patients’ and families’ needs wherever they call home, including senior living communities, nursing facilities, hospitals, as well as in their homes. Our volunteers can serve in many different ways including:

  • Providing companionship and socialization to patient and family
  • Providing needed non-medical services such as letter writing, respite care and assisting with family needs
  • Providing office support for hospice programming by answering phones, emailing/mailing information, and other clerical work
  • Sitting vigil with patient and/or family during the passing of a patient
  • Providing support through bereavement
  • Providing support through our special programming services: Petals for Patients, Memory Catchers, Essential Oils, We Honor Veterans, Birthday Celebrations, Loving Lawns, Cards from Kids, and Comfort Food

You will undoubtedly find your volunteer experience with Silverado Hospice to be rewarding, educational, and life changing as you though the hearts and spirits of those you serve.
