The First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability has a need for volunteer support within the Public Guardianship Program in the following Counties:
- Sullivan (Kingsport, Blountville, and Bristol)
- Unicoi (Erwin)
Senior citizens who are unable to manage their healthcare and financial affairs and who have no one willing or able to act on their behalf, receive Court appointed care through the Public Guardianship Program.
We are looking caring people who are willing to volunteer some of their time to make at least one visit per month to one or more of the senior citizens we serve, most of whom live in a nursing home or assisted living facility.
Volunteer visits are described as "friendly visits" which are tailored to meet the individual needs of each client such as, conversations, reading, accompanying the client to facility activities, taking walks, etc. The volunteer is asked to complete a brief and simple form, which is provided by the Program, for each visit they conduct with the client.
Prospective volunteers must complete an application packet and agree to a background check. Training and supervision are provided.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
