ORGANIZATION: Communities In Schools of Tacoma

Communities In Schools of Tacoma works in Tacoma Public Schools to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. We partner with local civic organizations, businesses, and community members to connect our most at risk students with needed resources.

One of our most valuable contributions to our community has been connecting a caring adult to a student in need. Many of our kids come from impoverished homes or are homeless and have very little resources needed to succeed in school and life.

We are in need of a female mentor to work with a struggling high school student. Ideally, the volunteer mentor would meet with the student 2 times a week after school between the hours of 2-4 pm. We are looking for someone who is caring and empathetic, inspirational, and can act as a life coach to promote self empowerment and success.

Communities In Schools is part of the 5th largest youth development organization in the country. We are the only ones proven to increase graduation rates AND decrease dropout rates.

We serve as the bridge between the student and the community, bringing in resources that help break down the barriers that students have to be successful in school.
