Be a Book Inspector...just 1.5 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday or Friday afternoons. The Talking Book and Braille Library provides audio books to Oregonians who are blind or print disabled.
Our book inspectors perform an important step to get audio books ready for circulation. Daily, we inspect about 1,400 digital books, check them back into the library and prepare them to go out again. We need volunteers who like detailed work and enjoy a fast paced work environment.
We urgently need more volunteers! Requests are high for audio books and our available volunteers and staff need help to meet the demand.
There are 3 shifts to fill... Monday, Tuesday or Friday at 1:30-3:00. If you are interested to learn more, contact Erich Peppler at 503-378-4498 or erich.peppler@state.or.us. Come join our team...that all may read!

Mission Statement
Citizens who volunteer are valuable partners of the State Library of Oregon. The State Library Board and the State Librarian support and encourage the volunteer program. Volunteers promote community awareness of the many services of the State Library and assist staff in the achievement of the mission and goals of the State Library. State Library staff are encouraged to assist in the creation of meaningful, productive, and varied roles volunteers can fill throughout the library. The Volunteer Coordinator provides oversight of the agency’s volunteer program.
Description
The State Library of Oregon cultivates, preserves, and delivers library and information services to foster lifelong leaning and community engagement.
There are three main divisions of the State Library:
Government Information and Library Services provides research and reference assistance to state government and to persons on official state business. Their in-depth collection of more than one million items specializes in business, history, political and social sciences. The collection also includes federal and state government publications and a comprehensive collection of materials about Oregon.
Library Support and Development Services plans for statewide library development; consults with local librarians, citizens and government officials; reports library statistics; and administers state and federal library grant programs.
The Talking Book and Braille Library is the regional library for the Library of Congress' National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. Oregonians who are unable to read standard print because of a visual, physical, or reading disability are eligible to receive free audio and Braille materials either through the mail or via download.
