ORGANIZATION: Girls Inc of Delaware

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Girls Inc. has been providing programs designed to inspire all girls to be strong, smart & bold in Delaware since 1954. We are in the process of moving to a new location and need volunteers to help with packing and sorting items.

Duties to be performed include wrapping items to prevent breakage in transit, boxing items (and labeling boxes), and moving small furnishing to staging areas throughout our building to make move day go faster. Our current location is 1019 Brown Street in Wilmington’s Browntown Neighborhood (zip code 19805). We are looking for groups of adults and/or students to help for all or a portion of the full shifts listed below. There is off-street parking available and our location is fully secured at all times so you and your vehicles will be safe. Student volunteers can receive documentation for service hours. Light refreshments will be provided during all shifts - meals if the shift worked covers a meal time.

The Staff will be here all day (9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) We could use help for one hours, 3 hours or all day!

Packing items for the move and staging items to be moved. Moving items to staging areas inside the building for the movers.

Mission Statement

Inspiring all girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold.

Description

Girls Inc. of Delaware is an affiliate of Girls Inc. which was founded in New England in 1864. Formerly the Girls Clubs of America, nationally Girls Inc. serves more than 138,000 girls across the United States and in Canada.

Our research-based programs provide girls with life-changing experiences and real solutions to the unique issues they face. Girls Inc. gives girls the right tools and support to succeed including trained professionals who mentor and guide them in a safe, girls-only environment alongside peers who share their drive and aspirations.

At Girls Inc., girls learn to set and achieve goals, boldly confront challenges, resist peer pressure, see college as attainable, and explore nontraditional fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Informed by the experiences of girls and their families, Girls Inc. works with policymakers to advocate on key legislation and initiatives.

Girls Inc. responds and adapts to the changing needs of girls and their communities. Girls who stay in our programs over time, are empowered to reach their full potential and to understand, value, and assert their rights.

Our programs focuses on three areas:
Healthy Living (STRONG)
Academic Enrichment & Support (SMART)
Life Skills Instruction (BOLD)

These supports provide a framework through which girls can explore new opportunities, develop their inherent strengths, take on healthy decision-making, boldly face challenges, and thrive.
